BLACK VELVET BAND

(C)Well, in a neat little town they call Belfast,
Apprentice to trade I was (G)bound.
Many (C)an hours sweet (Am)happiness,
have (F)I spent in that (G)neat little (C)town
A sad misfortune came over me,
which caused me to stray from the (G)land.
Far a(C)way from my friends and rel(Am)ations,
be(F)trayed by the (G)black velvet (C)band.

Chorus:
(C)Her eyes they shone like diamonds
I thought her the queen of the (G)land,
And her (C)hair it hung over her (Am)shoulder
Tied (F)up with a (G)black velvet (C)band.

I (C)took a stroll down Broadway, meaning not long for to(G) stay
When who (C)should I meet but this fair pretty (Am)maid
comes (F)a tripping (G)along the (C)highway.
She was both fair and handsome,
Her neck was like a (G)swans,
And her (C)hair hung over her (Am)shoulder
tied (F)up with a (G)black velvet (C)band.
Chorus.
I (C)took a stroll with this fair maid,
And a gentleman passes us(G) by,
Well I (C)knew she meant the doing of (Am)him,
By the (F)look in her (G)roguish black (C)eyes.
A gold watch she took from his pocket
And placed it right into my (G)hand.
And the (C)very first thing that I said (Am)was
bad (F)luck to the (G)black velvet (C)band.
Chorus.
Be(C)fore the judge and jury, next morning I had to (G)appear
The judge(C) he says to me:
"Young man, your case it is proven (Am)clear
We'll (F)give you seven (G)years penal serv(C)itude,
To be spent faraway from the(G) land,
Far away(C) from your friends and com(Am)panions,
Be(F)trayed by the (G)black velvet (C)band.
Chorus.
So (C)come all you jolly young fellows,
A warning you take from(G) me,
when (C)you are out on the town me lads,
beware of them pretty (G)colleens,
For (C)they feed you with strong drink, "Oh (Am)yeah",
'til (F)you are (G)unable to (C)stand,
And the very next thing that you'll(Am) know,
Is (F)you've landed (G)in Van Diemans (C)Land.

Chorus; Then repeat last two lines.

ALONG THE ROAD TO GUNDAGAI

(C)There's a (G7)scene that lingers in my (C)memory
Of an (D7)old bush home and friends I long to (C)see.
(F)That's why I am yearning (A7)Just to be returning
(D7)Along the road to (G7)Gundagai.
Chorus
(C)There's a track winding (E7) back
To an (F)old fashioned (C)shack
Along the (D7)road to (G7)Gunda(C)gai.
Where the (F)blue gums are growing
And the (C)Murrumbidgee's (A7)flowing
Be(D7)neath that sunny (G7)sky.
Where my (C)daddy and mother are (F)waiting for me
And the (A7)pals of my childhood
Once (D7)more I will (G7)see.
Then no (C)more will I (E7)roam,
When I'm (F)heading right for (C)home
Along the (D7)road to (g7)Gunda(C)gai.

When I (D7)get back there, I'll be a kid (C)again,
Oh, I'll (D7)never have a thought of grief or (C)pay.
(F)Once more I'll be playing, (A7)Where the gum trees are swaying
(D7)Along the road to (G7)Gundagai.

REPEAT CHORUS

SWAY

When marimba rhythms (Dm)start to play
Dance with me, (Am)make me sway,
Like a lazy ocean (E7)hugs the shore,
Hold me close, (Am)sway me mare.

Like a flower bending (Dm)in the breeze,
Bend with me, (Am)sway with ease,
When you dance you have a (E7)way with me,
Stay with me, (Am)sway with me.

Other dancers may (G)be on the floor, (G7)dear,
But my eyes will (C)see only you,
Only you have the (E7)magic technique,
When we sway I go (Am)weak.(E7)

I can hear the sounds of (Dm)violins
Long before (Am)it begins,
Make me thrill as only (E7)you know how,
Sway me smooth, (Am)sway me now.

Other dancers may (G)be on the floor, (G7)dear,
But my eyes will (C)see only you,
Only you have the (E7)magic technique,
When we sway I go (Am)weak.(E7)

I can hear the sound of (Dm)violins,
Long before (Am)it begins.
Make me thrill as only (E7)you know how,
Sway me smooth, (Am)sway me now.
Make me thrill as only (E7)you know how,
Sway me smooth, (Am)sway me now.

(F)I'm all (G7)alone in (C)romance

(G7)Once you told me long ago
(C)To the prom with me you'd go
(D7)Now you've changed your mind it seems
(G7)Someone else will hold my dreams.

CLICK GO THE MEDLEY

(C)Out on the board the (F)old shearer stands,
(C)Grasping his shears in his (D7)thin, boney (G7)hands,
(C)Fixed is his gaze on a (F)bare bellied joe,
(G)Glory if he gets her, won't he (C)make the (F)ringer (C)go.

(G7)Click got the shears boys, (C)click, click, click.
(F)Wide is his blow and his (C)hands move (G7)quick
The (C)ringer looks around and is (F)beaten by a blow,
And (G7)curses the old snagger with the (C)bare bellied joe.

(C)There's a track winding (E7)back to an (F)old fashioned (C)shack
Along the (D7)road to (G7)Gunda(C)gai,
Where the (F)gum trees are growin' and the (C)Murrumbidgee's (A7)flowin' be(D7)neath the sunny (G7)sky.
There's my (C)Mother and Daddy a (F)waitin' for me,
and the (A7)pals of my childhood once (D7)more I will (G7)see.
And no (C)more will I (E7)roam 'cos I'm (F)headin' right  for (C)home,
Along the (D7)road to (G7)Gunda(C)gai.

Once a jolly swagman (F)camped by a billabong
(C)Under the shade of a (G7)Coolibah tree,
And he (C)sang as he watched and (F)waited 'till his billy boiled
(C)You'll come a (G7)waltzing Matilda with (C)me.

Waltzing Matilda, (F)waltzing Matilda.
(C)You'll come a waltzing Matilda with (G7)me,
And he (C)sang as watched and (F)waited 'till his billy boiled
(C)You'll come a (G7)waltzing Matilda with (C)me.
(Repeat last FOUR lines.)

CRUISING DOWN THE MEDLEY

(D)Cruising down the (B7)river, on a (E7)Sunday afternoon,
With (A7)one you love (E7)the sun above
(D)waiting for the (E7)moon.(A7)
The (D)old accordion (B7)playing a (E7)sentimental tune
(D)Cruising (E7)down the (D)river on a (E7)Sunday (A7)after(D)noon......

(C)After the (F)ball is (C)over, after the break of (G7)morn,
(D7)After the (A7)dancers leaving,
(G7)After the stars are (C)gone, Many a (F)heart is (C)aching,
(A7)If you could read them (D7)all.
(G7)Many the hopes that have (C)vani(A7)shed (D7)af(G7)ter the (C)ball....

(G)Casey would waltz with a strawberry blonde,
And (D7)the band played on.
He'd glide cross the floor with the girl he adored,
And (G)the band played on.
But his brain was so (D7)loaded it (G7)nearly (C)exploded,
The (Am)poor girl would shake in alarm.
He'd (C)ne'er leave the (G)girl with the strawberry curls,
And the (A7)band (D7)played (G)on......

(C)After the (F)ball is (C)over, after the break of (G7)morn,
(D7)After the (A7)dancers leaving, (G7)After the stars are (C)gone,
Many a (F)heart is (C)aching, (A7)If you could read them (D7)all,
(G7)Many the hopes that have (C)vani(A7)shed
(D7)Af(G7)ter the (C)ball.........

Chorus:
Valder(G7)i, valder(C)a, valder(G7)i, valder(C)a ha-ha-ha- ha- ha.
Valder(G7)i, valder(C)a, my (F)knapsack (G7)on my (C)back.

I (C)love to wander by the stream, that dances in the (G7)sun,
So joyously (C)it calls to me, come (F)join my (G7) happy(C) song,
Chorus.
Valder(G7)i, valder(C)a, vader(G7)i, valder(C)a ha-ha-ha-ha-ha,

Oh may I al(C)ways laugh and sing (F)beneath God's (G7)clear blue (C)sky.

Chorus.
Valder(G7)i, valder(C)a, valder(G7)i, valder(C)a ha-ha-ha-ha-ha,

FOLSOM PRISON BLUES

(G)I hear the train a comin';  it's rollin' round the bend,
And I ain't seen the sunshine (G7)since I don't know when.
I'm (C)stuck in Folsom prison and time keeps draggin'  (G)on.
But that (D7)train keeps a rollin' on down to San An(G)tone.

When I was just a baby my mama told me, "Son,
Always be a good boy don't (G7)ever play with guns."
But I (C)shot a man in Reno just to watch him (G)die.
When I hear (D7)that whistle blowin',
I hang my head and (G)cry.

(E7) into key change.)

(A)I bet there's rich folks eating in a fancy dining car.
They're probably drinkin' coffee and (A7)smokin' big cigars.
But I (D)know I had it comin', I know i can't be (A)free.
But those (E7)people keep a movin',
And that's what tortures (A)me.

Well, if they'd freed me from this prison,
If that railroad train was mine,
I bet I'd move it on a little (A7)farther down the line,
(D)Far from Folsom prison, that's where I want to (A)stay,
And I'd l(E7)et that lonesome whistle blow my blues a(A)way.

OKIE FROM MUSKOGEE

(C)We don't smoke marijuana in Muskogee
We don't take our trips on (G7)LSD
We don't burn our draft cards down on Main Street
We like living right and being (C)free.

(C)We don't make a party out of loving
We like holding hands and pitching  (G7)woo
We don't let our hair grow long and shaggy
Like the hippies out in San Francisco (C)do.

CHORUS:
(C)And I'm proud to be an Okie from Muskogee
A place where even squares can have a (G7)ball
We still wave Old Glory down the courthouse
And white lightning's still the biggest thrill of (C)all.

(C)Leather boots are still in style for manly footwear
Beads and Roman sandals won't be (G7)seen
Football's still the roughest thing on campus
And the kids here still respect the college (C)dean.

Chorus twice and repeat last line.

DRUNKEN SAILOR

(Dm)What shall we do with the drunken sailor
(C)What shall we do with the drunken sailor
(Dm)What shall we do with the drunken sailor
(C)Earl-aye in the (Dm)morning.

Chorus:
(Dm)Hooray and up she rises
(C)Hooray and up she rises
(Dm)Hooray and up she rises
(C)Earl-aye in the (Dm)morning.

Put him in a long boat till he's sober

Put him in the scuppers with a hose pipe on him

Shave his chest with a hoop-iron razor.

Put him in the bilge and make him drink it.

Make him swab the decks while bollock-naked.

Soak him in oil till he sprouts a flipper.

Give 'im a taste of the bosun's rope-end.

(G)Way above the chimney tops
That's (Am)where you'll (F)find (G)me.

I STILL CALL AUSTRALIA HOME

(C)I've been to (E7)cities that (Am)never close (C)down
From (F)New York to (C)Rio and (D7)old London (G)town,

I (C)still call Aus(G)traila (C)home.

(C)I'm always (E7)travelling, I (Am)love being (C)free,
And (F)so I keep (C)leaving the (D7)sun and the (G)sea.
But my (C)heart lies (E7)waiting (Am)over the (F)foam,
I (C)still call Aus(G)traila (C)home.

All (Em)the sons and (B7)daughters
(Em)spinning round the (B7)world,
Away (Em)from their (C)family and (G)friends,
But (Em)as the world gets (B7)older and (Em)colder,
It's good to (F)know where your journey (G)ends.
